The Work of God FOR the Work of God
In order to faithfully live inside the gospel story, both believing the gospel and living in line with the gospel, we must remember again the gospel is the work of God FOR the work of God – it is the work of God in and through the life and work of Jesus Christ on our behalf (1 Corinthians 15:1-10; Ephesians 2:8-9), for the work of God which is the good works he prepared in advance for us to do in light of his New Creation intentions (Ephesians 2:10). His purpose in redeeming us to himself is to be his set apart people who exist to be a people for the praise of his glorious grace (Ephesians 1:3-14). We do this by being a people sent out among those who don’t yet believe; living lives that demonstrate a gospel contrast community to the communities we live within (1 Peter 2:11-12; John 13:34-35) and declaring the gospel message as God opens doors (Romans 10:13-15; 1 Peter 2:9-10; 3:15).
