Sacred Space

We believe that God is always present, everywhere throughout his creation, and therefore there is no place that cannot be considered "sacred". We also believe that God has created us to care for and steward all of his creation, but many things are broken...

Bringing beauty and restoration to our community is one of the ways we display and experience the Gospel of Jesus.

Soma Communities is committed to incarnationally rebuilding the broken parts ofour city. We are committed to a missional journey of actively repairing the broken places all around us, partnering with God to restore this divinely-created world.

As we combine our talents, time and resources we experience authentic community that is rich in meaning, truth and worship.

Check the calendar for several Sacred Space events each year.

Recap of a Recent Sacred Space Project

From Abe (6th Ave Area)

First of all, thanks to all of the leaders who directed the projects at half a dozen parks around the city. We had our biggest turn out ever (over 90 people).

Secondly, please know that Metro Parks was completely wowed by the amount of work done at each single location. The staff guys who oversee each of the parks were blown away by how much got done at their respective sites. The guy who I coordinate these events with, who has been with Metro Parks for over 30 years (and loves Tacoma), was gushing about how impressed he was with our work ethic.  He deals with volunteers all of the time, so his praise is significant.

Also, please know that in addition to making a meaningful contribution to our city, and to the development of our ongoing relationship with Metro Parks, we provided over $5000 worth of labor to this city organization. They actually figure volunteer labor into their budget, so this was a great blessing for them.

(We borrowed the idea for Sacred Space from our friends at Imago Dei.)
